Hi, I’m Helen.

Welcome to my blog, “Searching for Wisdom”. As humans, being wise is perhaps the singular most needed and significant aim that may just make the most crucial difference to our world and in our relationships.

I’ve spent the past 20 years walking alongside people and supporting them in my psychotherapy practice. The process supports a discovery of personal wisdom which will guide and sustain through life’s inevitable hardships and challenges. My specialty for many years was supporting people living with cancer, a crucible for wisdom formation.

Discovering how deeply wise the human psyche can be, I decided to study this phenomenon of wisdom in a doctoral research study with women who were living with ovarian cancer. I turned their insights into poetry – as poetry is its own rigorous research genre mining the depths of people’s lived experiences and communicating their gleanings and wisdom in condensed, evocative ways. The doctoral study with the poetry can be found here.

This regular blog offers practical tips and reflections on searching for wisdom in our day to day lives using contemporary research, poetry, working with dreams and insights from Carl Jung’s depth psychology as well as the work of Marion Woodman, Marie Louise Von Franz, Joseph Campbell, James Hillman, Clarissa Pinkole-Estes, Mary Oliver, David Whyte, Rainer Maria Rilke and the insights of other sages, poets, writers past and present.

Join a growing ”Finding Wisdom’ global community, perhaps together, we can make a difference by seeking out our own unique way of being wise and finding wisdom in the day to day. One drop in the pond, changes the whole pond. From this, we can take hope.
